In 1950 China is whole again, even if the Nationalists do manage to have their hold out on the island of Taiwan. Mao was already preparing for his first visit abroad, naturally, to Moscow. The Soviets represent a necessary thing for Mao and the Chinese Communist to lean on. As I kind of alluded to before, though, it's not as if the Soviets and the CCP had been the best of buddies.
