Was It Lukas, or Was It Stalinism?

Lukas was a real moral purist in any ways, really uncompromising and then wound up being able to survive Stalinism. It's unclear how he managed to do this, but that in itself was remarkable. He managed to avoid being sent to the Gulag, but his stepson was. His wife said we were always quite happy when people were sent to the gulag for reform... shortly after her own son had returned from the Gulag with suffering from terrible frostbite.
