The History of Marie LaVoe

The first time Marie LaVoe appears unambiguously in the archival record is in August of 1819. She was married in New Orleans St. Louis Cathedral by a famous local priest known as Pear Antoine. The couple had two daughters, but then only a few years after they were married, Jacques Perrie disappeared. All we know is that eventually he was presumed dead andMarie LaVoe started referring to herself as the widow Perrie. Some sources even provide the year 1826 as the official start of LaVoe's career as a Voodoo priestess.
