The Origins of Humanity in Ancient Greece

The concept that we value today, individual liberty, or the concept of private property, these were entirely unknown. The notions of human rights or equality of mankind would have also been quite impossible for them to grasp. And so at the birth of ancient Greece, we find a social arrangement not only so different from our time, but so different from the Athens of Socrates' time. We can recognize the humanity and these strange human beings of an earlier time, and even recognize some of ourselves in them.
