I think that the Red Sox were perhaps overly optimistic about what they thought their offer to Bogart was and how close it might be to retaining him. I'm sure, you know, Boston fans breathe the huge sigh of relief when his 11 year $331 million contract got done. But yeah, certainly the Red Sox didn't anticipate 80 as being the get it done figure.
