The Spectrum of Dissociation in Trauma Therapy

Dissociation is going to help you in every dimension of the work with trauma survivors. It's relatively impossible by definition to treat somebody who's been significantly traumatized without encountering dissociation at one level or another. We can think about dissociation on a continuum from kind of non-pathological dissociation, when we get absorbed and that the rest of the world falls away into PTSD. And then eventually at the far end of the continuum, we've got dissociative identity disorder.
