In the tenth and ninth centuries b c e and the assyrians were more than happy to plunder the lands and riches of their neighbors. Iron, as it was for the hittites in previous centuries, was an advantage over bronze in that it was durable and hard wearing. By comparison, you would sooner wear iron armour as opposed to bronze. Also, sharp sword and dagger edges were sharper when made from iron. And what's more is that they stayed sharper for longer. When ashenazipal the second became the assyrian king in eight 83, b, c, e, he would turn theAssyrian kingdom into an empire.
