The concept of house hacking which I've recommended to my children. The reason that works particularly well in the US system is that you can take advantage of both the benefits of home ownership and the benefits of being a landlord. As a home owner you're going to be able to get more leverage essentially because you can get into a property with a much lower down payment than somebody who is buying something purely to rent will have to put down. But then if you rent out a significant part of the home or duplex or whatever it is you're also going to get the benefits ofBeing a renter under the tax code including depreciation and being able to write off a lot of things on your taxes.
