The Importance of Comorbidities in Modifying Treatment Effects

The rate of complications increased with Chad's Vascore. The adjusted odds ratio of complications was 1.88 or nearly double the risk of an important complication if you had a Chad’s Vasc score of 5 or greater. This is not controversial for any procedure we already know this. But it's even more than just treatment benefit versus harm right. Here the outcome of interest with left atrial appendage occlusion is fewer strokes and less bleeding. If you choose patients who have a higher upfront risk you create a higher bar for the net benefit in the future.
