The Challenges of Moving Between Ministerial Jobs
The rate of movement between ministerial jobs means many politicians will face many first days, in different departments. Let's go back to Jim Murphy who remembers his amazement walking into the Cabinet Office for his second ministerial job. Estelle Morris remembers the challenges of her second job as well when she was promoted to Secretary of State for Education. It wasn't a new government, but it was a new Secretary of State. And I think we'd both agree looking back that that meant we underestimated our lack of experience at those senior posts.
