Shostakovich's Seven Symphonies
Shostakovich reveals that symphonies, which had seemingly extolled Stalin and his cronies, were actually sarcastic takedowns of the dictator. His seventh symphony, the Leningrad, written at the height of World War II was hailed around the world as a massive statement against fascism. But many supporters of the quiet dissident theory now claim that while the words in the book are not, may or may not be Shostakovich's, the sentiments are.
