Is There a Frankfurt Case?
In this kind of case, like an agent, they're structured so that an agent does something for their unreasons on their own. So maybe there's a nefarious neuroscientist who's implanted a device in the agent's brain and they're monitoring their deliberative processes. And if there's any sign that they're going to decide otherwise, this neuroscientist will intervene and force them to do as they'll actually decide. But that intervener, potential intervener, is only a counterfactual intervener. They don't actually intervene to do anything. And so it looks like the person's free and responsible, many of us think.
