By the mid-1970s, Japan was listing hydrogen as one of five focus areas for its sunshine project with a combined budget equivalent to $2.4 billion today. When oil prices plummeted in the 1980s, however, hydrogen's grip on the public imagination evaporated. But it came roaring back during the technology bubble around the turn of the millennium. Between September 1997 and March 2000, the share price of ballad power systems standard bear for hydrogen fuel cells leapt by 1000%.
