There are 8.73 million self-employed workers in America, according to the latest household survey. This is people who just work for themselves but haven't set up a business. That number is the lowest it's been since the pandemic and lower than pre-pandemic. It's down 369,000 in one month, which is even bigger than the rise in payrolls.
