The All White Jury's Decision in Ward v. Ward
An all white jury in 18 73 ruled that a woman who had been freed from slavery was entitled to some sort of reparation. The judge made it very clear that what they are doing is basically like, this is an employment case. This is not about morality. It's worth saying ward, the enslaver here, died with millions, multi multi millionaire as a result of all the unpaid labor of which he got rich. And so i don't think anyone should have had the capacity to embrace, or the desire to embrace, what reparations would look like for enslaved people.
