Anticoagulation for Atrial Fib During Sepsis
The risk of stroke associated with new atrial fibrillation during sepsis is relatively high. But giving anticoagulation doesn't seem to reduce that risk significantly, which may be because the strokes are not directly caused by the atrialfibers. So for a rate control strategy, I will generally wait to start anticoagulated until the patient starts to look more like an outpatient who you can discuss the risks benefits of anticoagulations with.
