Story Structure in Relation to the Hero's Journey

With your new book, Thrust, people are also noticing a similar thing. For instance, certain storylines are never resolved. Some say the novel moves more like a poem, associatively. Ron Charles and his ravey view calls the form amorphous. And maybe I would go further and say it is baggy, that it's carrier baggy. But keeping story structure in our minds, but in the background, I was hoping you could talk a little bit more about characters and protagonists when we're also thinking of story shape.
