The Demise of the Christian Imagination
Christian imagination has been attacked from two sides, he says. The arts were relegated to 'mere subjectivity' in the Enlightenment era. C.S. Lewis argues that reason is natural organ of truth but imagination is organ of meaning. We have lots of information, but no meaning when an artist comes up with some meaning, they say, well, that's just subjective. And as long as we do that, then our art is going to be seen as a self-indulgent luxury rather than a necessity. But for the deepest things of being human, it's a necessity, and we need to bring it back.
