You were Paul Laureate of Jamaica for three years. What did that show you in terms of people's interest in poetry and the role of poetry in a country? I wanted as many children young children as possible to have access to what I had which is teachers who loved poetry and taught me poetry, and made me memorize all kinds of poems. So poets led me there. Even the poets who wrote those wonderful hymns that I would sing at school in the morning,. You know, King of glory, King of peace.
