The Problem of Evil in Platonism
Socrates says the gods are prone to human emotions and effects, not just wrath. He also disagrees on some deep metaphysical level with the idea that the gods dispense reward or punishment transactionally. The view of the gods as punishing or rewarding based on receiving offerings is a religious notion descended from ancestor worship.
