The Battle of Syracuse

In 63 b c, the romans decided to commit themselves more fully to the sicilian invasion. The operation of the previous year had essentially been a private campaign waged by appius claudius. If syracuse could not be made into an ally, then at the very least he had to agree to stay out of the fight. With this in mind, both consuls for the year were sent to sicily with instructions to march on sy Syracuse and force hyro to the table.
