The Great Justinian Codification of Roman Law
The church today has what is recognized universally to be the oldest continually functioning legal system in the world. Gration recovers the great Justinian codification of Roman law, a code of law. He takes it off from other places and he says, these are the laws now. These are the laws. And this basically falls like a dead letter, historically speaking, because Justinian's work to sort of rebuild the empire and make it new again, caught on for a brief while and then collapse like an underdone souffle.
