Can Friends Go on a Break?

My best friend of ten years has been getting on my nerves. I feel like if I say I want a break she'll be really upset and just automatically assume that it means I don't want to be friends through Plus it will make it really awkward as we all hang out in one group And I feel like they would rather hang out and be friends with her than me So this isn't like a mutual thing.
