The Challenges of Antarctica as a Scientist

The Arctic is an ocean that's very much protected by land, pretty much all around. The Antarctic is a land mass surrounded by ocean. You get a lot more snowfall because you've got a lot more evaporation coming off the ocean surrounding the ice. That snow cover is what really gives us the problem. It's incredibly thick and it's not just a nice, uniform depth of snow. We really need to understand exactly where our instruments are reflecting from.
