The ability to tolerate knowledge of the competing ideas causes the conscious ego to grow. An inability to hold both can, as we've said before, result in this kind of standstill. And I have a couple of little vignettes, maybe to share about how this can function. A client was aware that her mother had some health problems. She felt like it was a more complicated desire to want her mother to move to be near her.
