The Mimamsa's Argument for Language
The Mimamsa has offered a whole battery of arguments to support this surprising claim. We have no evidence that things have ever been otherwise, so we may assume that language like the Veda has always been passed down from generation to generation. Furthermore, there is good reason to think that things cannot be otherwise. Take a word like cow or in Sanskrit go. Incidentally, you can tell a lot about a culture by the meaning it assigns to the syllable go. For ancient Indians, it meant cow. In Japan, it means a board game of almost infinite complexity and subtlety. for Americans, go is where you start when you are trying to build a monopoly.
