Kubernetes - Is This an Add on Controller?
The ability to have an admission controller is baked into the Kubernetes system. It lets you add behavior to your cluster that is not native without having to modify the cluster code itself. So it's complementary, I would say, to cut to custom resource definition and controllers and operators.
