There was a system of teacs, or pious foundation, which was a central institution of ottoman life throughout all t e empires. Awacus were endowments which owned shops or agricultural land or other economic eunics. The income from was then used to pay the upkeeper of mosques, schools and hospitals. It also paid for water and food for for the poor, scoolling and heading for orphans. Some buckets were enormous mosq complexes, which included schools, hospitals, soup kitchens, baths and caravan is, guest houses.
