The Rise and Fall of Hippius

When Poseistratus died, his son Hippius took over the rule of Athens. Another important figure at that time was a man named Kleisthenes. He overthrew Hippius and banished him in 510 BC. But later a man named Isagris actually led a conspiracy against Kleisthene. The ordinary Athenian citizens rose up and trapped Isagris at the top of the Acropolis. This was the first time in recorded history that the ordinary people rose up against their government and took power.
