The first psychology of compassion was a type of engagement psychology being sensitive to the suffering. If you're so captured by your film or TV show that you don't even hear that they're crying, that they're in pain, nothing else is going to happen. You also need to be bothered about them. So if it was self-compassion you would be psychologically moving towards your own distress. And as you walk outside and you see like this picture here, a child who's in pain and let's say you can see blood coming from their knee, of course it's not like an alien thing.
