I think the key is always, at some point, your language has to be up at a B2 level. That's strong upper intermediate level, where you can have a conversation comfortably. Once you get to that point, most people would most polygons I know would say that your language never really it can get rusty, but it's always going to be there. Because it's almost as if it kind of takes up residence in some part of your brain, which can be unlocked at any point.
