This episode had a lot of echoes of the first episode, sometimes down to just little dramatic beats. There is a kind of distance between him and the kids the same way there is now. They're not necessarily fully estranged, but there's all that sort of horse trading about Tom stepping up into Jerry's role. And then at the very end, he's like, so I need you guys to just sign off on this,. And the kids say no. And that's what brings on his brain hemorrhage.
