Churchill says what had happened is without precedent or parallel in the modern history of the British Empire. But if this had been any other empire, other than the British Empire, nobody would know the name of Amrits. The British Empire tended to follow the common law and to give rights to the native peoples. And so as a result, it's widely seen as the lowest moment in the British Empire's history.
