The New York Times Is Vilifying Transness as a Disease to Be Feared

The New York Times has come under fire for its handling of the transgender issue. The paper published a letter from staff members who say they are concerned about safety and access to medical care, among other things. They claim that it is taking cues from hateful radical right-wing extremists in their coverage. This article was amended on November 14 by our reporter Sarah Bresnahan after we asked her if she had spoken with any editors or reporters at the newspaper before writing this piece. We would like to make clear that while there have been some conversations between journalists and trans people over the past few years, these discussions were generally limited to discussing issues such as how best to treat those seeking gender reassignment surgery
