Paul Westerberg quit his band Oat in 1979 after seven years. A mutual friend introduced him to a guy Paul had seen here and there in the basements of Minneapolis Named Chris Mars. The next time they hung out, Paul brought his guitar, his amp, and an armful of records That would help define the future sound of the replacements.
