Real Dictators

CHAPTER

The Suicide of America

Japan's push towards war with America is being driven by the most self-confident of proponents. Hideki Tōji was so popular in cabinet, and by now so close to the Emperor, that his position becomes untenable. Kanōi's departure does nothing to delay war. If anything, it speeds up the process because now there's a vacancy for Prime Minister of Japan. On October 18, 1941,  the inevitable happens. Many who might once have been skeptical about Tōji have been one-over to his way of doing things.
