When you hit 30, it's time to start treating your parents as if they're needy teenagers that want your approval. So what I do is I just look for things that I love about myself that I know I got from my mom or dad and I just give them the footnotes every time I see them authentic. You have to manage intergenerational envy - even though they're my parents, they're also humans that appear to appear.
