Sonic was designed in the 90s and epitomizes the bad attitude anti-hero cartoon character. There really didn't ever need to be like a back story or anything like that. Dr. Robotnik is always the boss of any given Sonic level, right? And he has all these just like crazy high tech machines. They're going to totally destroy Sonic and then Sonic ruins the machine and then it's off on the chase again. But as the series got popular, they started throwing in all these elements,.
