At the beginning of World War II, things were going badly for the U.S., says Peter Bergen. But within a year or two they found ways to not lose and that was an amazing thing in the sense that I think about COVID for the last three years, right? We did a lot of stupid mistakes with respect to COVID, but nobody got fired. No organizations were even reorganized. That's a pretty bad sign about how scared we were.
