History of the Second World War

The German Night Bombing Campaign
The Luftwaffe flew about 2000 sorties on the second day of the war, losing about 14 aircraft. The Poles were able to manage about 200 sorties at a much higher rate of attrition, losing 10% or just 20 aircraft. Polish bombers would have been far more useful, but the bulk of Polish bombing forces contained in independent bombing brigades was held in reserve south of Warsaw.
