When you drill a couple of miles deep, you're really getting huge amounts of geothermal heating. And if you can get water that's been pumped down and then pump it back up again, the water you get when you pump it up will be really hot. But most of the temperature of the surface of the earth is not to do with what's inside the earth but how much illumination from the sun gets down to the surface. How much of that illumination heats the surface and whether the surface when it's hot will radiate heat back into space.
