Professor Gregory Burns has published the findings of a study using MRI scans to track the lingering neural effects of reading a narrative. The scan results show that there was heightened connectivity in the left temporal cortex, which is associated with language. This suggests that reading a novel may cause persisting changes in resting state connectivity of the brain and improve brain function.
