I'm a Big Proponent of Maintenance Fluid in Colorectal Surgery

I'm a real big proponent of early doghoff placements and people who have intact guts, even if they can't swallow. And I typically prefer LR to normal saline, except in the neuro ICU where everybody gets normal saline because we love salt there. So many of our patients have plenty of food on board anyway. Even if they do occasionally need some more, just doing it in more of a bolus fashion is less risk of running away.
