All-Female Flying Combat Units
The biplanes were the sole and workhorse of the Soviet Union's first all-female combat units. These biplanes had no armour and flew without guns, but their lack of protection isn't the only remarkable element of their role in the Second World War. Swedish filmmaker Gennelabreski met many of them. She tells how the idea to create all female flying combat units is credited to Marina Raskova, a celebrated Soviet aviator.
