The Importance of Scientific Leadership in a Pharmaceutical Company

I made a real commitment to trying to develop people in the middle of the organization who I thought could be senior leaders inside the company. One of the things that I did was I decided to have, as my chief of staff, someone who was an up and coming person for 12 to 18 months. And we were able to bring forward a bunch of people who became great leaders in our company which would have otherwise sort of had to work their way incrementally up the ladder.
