In reptiles and ectotherms, like this, we call it heat hardening. So essentially, when you're exposed to a hot temperature for an extended period of time, you become more adept at functioning at high temperatures or vice versa. This is acclamation or phenotypic plasticity,. where you have one genome that can produce multiple phenotypes depending on its interaction with the environment.
