Where Did the Franks Come From?
The franks were groups of germanic peoples living in the low lying area just beyond the river rhine, which served as a border to the roman empire. By the fourth century, we already have indications of a frankish people's having made their way west into the southern low countries. And an its that type of expansion that seems to have effectively continued after that. So when we reached the fifth century, the franks were able to advance on on northern gaul all the way to what is now a northern france and gradually supplant roman authority across that particular region.
