How Do You Map Out Something in Space?

The most important place to start doing this kind of three dimensional mapping on a larger scale than just one object here or there is within our own Milky Way galaxy. We can learn an awful lot by just understanding the cosmological environment that we're living in, you know, most closely. As new telescopes start coming online over the next decade or two, those tools will really start to improve as we get that better data faster.
