Skepticism and idealism are kind of related, but he's going after them both. The idea of radical doubt that we can have certainty about things is unsatisfactory to a lot of people. And I think that ultimately more nuanced is not just rejecting Barkley's full explanation out of hand. He does want to say that things are pretty much how we perceive them.
