The idea of the dream job became popular in the 20th century, especially as education levels begin to rise and incomes expanded. There was a shift from work being a chore, a necessity to something that we can hopefully enjoy and strive towards. We were already conditioned from modelling our parents behaviour and the people around us to see work as something that was hierarchical whereby there were some jobs that were filled with joy and passion and which will make us happy and other jobs that just needed to be done.
